Early Intervention for ages 11-25's

Body Image Worries

Many young people struggle with how they see their bodies. For some, these worries become overwhelming — affecting confidence, mood, friendships, eating habits, and everyday life. This may include intense body checking, avoiding mirrors or social situations, distress around food, or constant reassurance‑seeking about appearance.

At Body Image Coach, we support young people and their families to understand what’s underneath these worries and to build a healthier, calmer relationship with their body and mind. Our approach is to educate people on how their mind works and how they can change those core beliefs that are no longer serving them. We do this through video animation, peer support groups and 1-1 coaching - online.

We are accredited with quality care frameworks and have worked across the mental health sector, including with body image anxieties for over 30 years, with combined lived experience.

You can make your own referral if you are 18 or over. Please note: we do not provide clinical assessment, treatment or monitoring, if you need assistance with this we encourage you to speak with your GP, who can arrange specialist assessment or treatment in line with NICE (and SIGN in Scotland) guidelines.

Programme Overview

Our 6-week early intervention programme is designed to promote positive body image and support individuals experiencing body image anxieties and early mental health challenges linked to self-perception. The programme is suitable for anyone struggling with thoughts, feelings, beliefs, habits, or triggers connected to body image.

Parents/carers — or participants over the age of 18 accessing the programme independently — receive weekly workshops via email, allowing sessions to be completed flexibly from the comfort of home. Each workshop combines psychoeducation and coaching through an engaging animated video and accompanying workbook activities to support reflection and learning.

Participants also have the opportunity to attend interactive peer support group sessions led by a trained body image coach, alongside optional 1:1 coaching sessions if additional support is desired.

We do not currently deliver face-to-face programmes directly within schools. Instead, schools, parents, carers, and other professionals can refer individuals to us, and we work with young people either in their own safe space online or within an appropriate private space in school. All under-18s must be supervised by a parent or guardian throughout participation.

Before starting the programme, all participants complete safeguarding, GDPR, and coaching agreement documentation to ensure the service remains within the scope of body image support and psychoeducation. Our work focuses on body image anxieties and emotional wellbeing. We do not provide eating disorder treatment, medical monitoring, diagnosis, or clinical intervention.

Participants who are experiencing eating disorder symptoms — including restriction, purging, significant weight changes, or other clinically concerning behaviours — must be under the care or monitoring of appropriate statutory or clinical services such as a GP, CAMHS, an eating disorder team, or a dietitian. Once appropriate clinical support is in place, we can work alongside those services to provide complementary coaching and psychoeducational support around body image and self-concept, where it is safe and appropriate to do so.
